santa rides a motorcycle and other random observations

saturday i went to dallas for jOel & alta's wedding. on the way there, we almost died several times, and then on the way back, we saw santa... twice... on a motorcycle. aside from the ceremony, which was beautiful, there was a cake which is joining my list of favorite cakes. it looked like a giant basket. they even had fruit on the top of it. i had no clue that it was real. but it tasted good! lots of chocolate. so now we have their basket cake, pony's computer cake, and the armadillo cake from Steel Magnolias ...

i had an epiphany at work monday. i have now changed my entire philosophy on course evals. i used to get all bent out of shape at stupid people who can't fill out a scantron correctly. i have to go back and redo the ones in pen and fix them when they do checkmarks or draw straight lines down the page or change the question to a negative and answer in a postive. They would tell me that I didn't have to do that, but I an ocd perfectionist... I wanted to do it "right" which meant fixing everything. Besides, the professors were being evaluated with those. They deserved to have their evaluations. So every semester I get mad and frustrated and rant (considerably) about the stupidity of *college* students who can't figure out how to correctly fill out a SCANTRON. but anyway. I am no longer going to get mad about their stupidity (hypothetically). I'm no longer going to kill myself trying to fix their "mistakes", deliberate as though they were.

Now hear this: For those people out there who refuse to fill out their scantrons correctly, I no longer think that your opinion is important. There is no longer going to be someone going along behind you and redoing your course evaluations just so your opinion can be heard. From now on, if you do your course evaluation in pen or in some other incorrect way, you have NO room to complain if the professor remains awful the next year or if something else doesn't get fixed. You cannot complain about your classes, nor can you complain about your profs. If you truly believed that something needed to change, then you should've filled out the evaluation correctly. I don't care about you anymore. I refuse to continue getting angry. I'm tried of ulcers and being sick, and while this won't get rid of all of it, it will help somewhat. I still think those who do that are idiots, but regardless, it's their choice to be idiotic and to not have their opinions heard (although, it would make MUCH more sense, at least in lizard logic, to just not fill out the evaluation. if you don't care to do it correctly, then just don't do it at all.)

end rant about discontinuing ranting.

and now, i'm just sitting at home... bored... cause all the people left... watching entirely too much tv... and contemplating being slightly scroogish this Christmas... i don't really feel like putting a tree or anything up this year... :-\ but i feel guilty if i don't... sigh..

i other stuff i wanted to write about, but i do'nt really remember now... i stopped half way through writing this...

rain is happy :-)

today, well it feels like it should be tomorrow, but it's after midnight, so whatever... anyway, today is my great grandmother's 101st birthday.

i was thinking about it... her family came to Texas in a covered wagon (although i'm not sure if she born yet or if it was just her older sister or something). she lived through the prohibition and the great depression, two world wars and so many other ones. she was a flapper (which is hillarious and neat to me at the same time), especially knowing her now. she saw the introduction of cars to men walking on the moon (as did my mom). she saw her town get its first party line telephone to the day when everybody and their dog has a cell phone. how much has the world changed because of technology since 1905? it used to be that life went decades, if not longer, w/o changing. but now it changes drastically in the blink of an eye. where's it going to be in 80 years when i'm a hundred and one? for that matter, where will it be when i'm 50? or even 30? it changes so rapidly. it doesn't seem like it can become any more advanced, yet it does.. can you picture the future? if you were born in 1905, would you have pictured anything remotely like what's happened in the past century? you couldn't... but where's it going now? and how much more will it change in her lifetime? that just boggles my mind... (granted, it doesn't take much to boggle my ever-inquisitive and ocd warped thinking, but still....)
