I haven't done this in a while, but anyway...
New Cloud Thoughts:
I like clouds :) They're pretty :) And some days, it's just really hard to want to pay attention to the road, when the view looking up is infinitely better.
Driving home, I was thinking about the clouds (but not getting to look at them, as there was this whole annoying driving thing happening), and they were so big and looked so solid.. . It's hard to remember sometimes that they're just water vapor. (Although, sometimes, I'm more partial to thinking they're giant piles of shaving cream, since that's what they look like :-P ). And I started thinking about all the different things clouds do. They bring rain to make things grow. They form tornadoes that totally devastate entire towns. They make hurricanes they have even greater and widespread impact than a single tornado. They bring snow! :) Sometimes flurries, sometimes enough to shut down traffic and power for a while. They block out the sun and make it shady (which is a much needed thing when it's 104 outside). And they decorate the sky, in ever-changing paintings. So much stuff. And.. it's just water vapor. It's not even solid. It can't think. It can't talk. It can't chose what it does and what it doesn't want to do. If God can and does do so much with just.. water vapor.. If He can make it accomplish so many and so widely varied tasks, then how much more can He and does He want to do with my life?
Other random cloud thought... Did I mention they were pretty? Guess I'm getting repetitive in my old age :-P On second thought.. . the cloud formations I commented on while ago aren't there any more. Now, it's something different. So, I'm not being repetitive. Totally different thing. So there. Anyway.. back to my point. They're pretty. And they change. All the time. Sometimes, they look more like paintings, sometimes sculptures, sometimes shaving cream or puddles of water. ;-) They never stay the same. And, I know some people just take them as random, whatever the wind is doing and.. yeah.. You can look at it that way.. but.. who told the wind where to go? to sculpt that cloud to look like a dragon standing on its head and that one over there to look like a pig wearing tennis shoes? I don't think they're random.. I think God, the all-knowing all-powerful all-CREATIVE God, is doing what He's always done... Creating. Painting. Sculpting. Making beautiful sunsets to encourage you while you're driving home after a crummy day at work. Reminding us just how small we are, when compared to everything else on this planet (and yet.. He loves us most of all). Captivating us with his artistry, and delighting when we find shapes that's He's hidden or when we just enjoy His composition of various shapes, textures, and colors. A collage of clouds. Why not? And.. if He pays so much attention to little details, like.. what He wants the sky to look like at 1:03, and then what He wants it to look like at 1:04, and 1:05... Wouldn't He be even more interested and attentive to us? Clouds are just water vapor.. We're made in His image. I guess it just reminds me about the verse that says He's so attentive that He notices when a sparrow falls, so how much more does He notice and value us. And then verses in Matthew 6 about how He clothes the grass of the field, the lilies. So, it's not really a stretch to say that He also clothes the sky, is it? He's constantly changing his masterpiece in the sky. It's never the same from moment to moment. You can't do that with something without being focused on it, without noticing everything, without *being there*. How much *more* does He care about me? How much more does He focus on me? that He's here *with me*? Even when it seems like He's not there for a while. He's always changing the clouds. He's not just there looking at them. He's doing something. Isn't it the same with my life, even if I can't see it? He's here. all the time. And, he's doing something, even if I don't notice it for a while. Clouds are just water vapor, so they're easier to form and move around. I, on the other hand, tend to be stubborn. So, if he's trying to make something complex and amazing (like a dragon standing on its head), then it's going to take a while. I just.. need to remember that's He here, that He's always here, that He cares about me so much more than the clouds or the lilies of the field or sparrows, and that He is doing something, even if I can't see it.
Also, clouds are just pretty ;-)
End cloud rant.
